Privacy policy
Quick answer
CookwareCalc collects no personal information unless you type it into a form. The site uses Google Analytics to understand which pages are read, and affiliate links set cookies belonging to the retailer. We do not sell data, and there is no account to create.
What we collect
Nothing personal unless you choose to give it. There are no accounts on this site and nothing to sign up for in order to read it.
- Analytics. Google Analytics records aggregate usage: which pages are read, approximate location, device and browser type, and how visitors arrive. This is used to understand which pages are useful. It is not tied to an identity.
- Forms. If you submit the contact or partnership form, the email address and message you enter are delivered to us by email so we can reply. If you request a printable kit list, the address is used to send it.
- Affiliate links. Following a product link takes you to a retailer, who sets their own cookie to attribute the visit. That cookie and the data behind it belong to the retailer and are covered by their privacy policy, not this one.
What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent or share personal data.
- We do not set advertising cookies of our own or build profiles of visitors.
- We do not add anyone to a mailing list from a contact form submission.
- We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Your choices
Browser settings, private browsing and content blocking extensions all prevent analytics and affiliate cookies from being set, and the site works normally without them. Every calculator here renders its answer server side, so blocking scripts does not stop the site being useful.
To have an email address you submitted deleted, ask through the contact page.
Third parties
This site relies on Google Analytics for usage statistics, Google Fonts for typefaces, FormSubmit for form delivery, and Amazon for product data and affiliate links. Each of those has its own privacy policy governing the data it receives, and visiting a retailer through a link here puts you under theirs.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the change will be reflected here. Questions go to the contact page.
Common questions
What data does this site collect?
Nothing personal unless you type it into a form. Google Analytics records aggregate usage such as which pages are viewed, roughly where visitors are located and what device they use. If you submit the contact form or request a printable list, the email address you enter is used to reply or to send that list, and nothing else.
Do you use cookies?
Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish one visit from another. Following an affiliate link sets a cookie belonging to the retailer, which is how they know a purchase originated here. We do not set advertising cookies of our own, and browser settings or an extension can block any of this.
Do you sell my data?
No. There is nothing to sell: there are no accounts, no profiles and no tracking beyond aggregate analytics. An email address submitted through a form is used to reply to that message or to send the thing you asked for, and it is not passed on, rented or sold.
How do I get my data removed?
Use the contact page and ask. If you submitted an email address through a form, it can be deleted on request. Analytics data is aggregate and not tied to an identity, so there is generally nothing there to attach to an individual, and clearing your browser cookies removes the identifier it uses.
Is this site suitable for children?
It is a site about cookware and knives written for adults making purchasing decisions, and it is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. Content about knives and hot cookware assumes an adult reader, and the safety notes should be read accordingly.
